We were instructed to glorify Allah after every prayer thirty-three times, to praise Him thirty-three times, and to magnify Him thirty-four times.A man from the Ansar then saw a vision in his sleep. The visitor asked him, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ instruct you to glorify Allah thirty-three times after every prayer, to praise Allah thirty-three times, and to magnify Him thirty-four times?"He replied, "Yes."The visitor said, "Make it twenty-five, and include the declaration of Allah's oneness with them."The next morning he went to the Prophet ﷺ and told him about it, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Do it." (That is, the glorification is twenty-five, the praise is twenty-five, the magnification is twenty-five, and "there is no god but Allah" is twenty-five, making one hundred in total.)
أمرنا أن نسبح دبر كل صلاة ثلاثا وثلاثين، ونحمده ثلاثا وثلاثين، ونكبره أربعا وثلاثين، قال: فرأى رجل من الأنصار في المنام فقال: أمركم رسول الله ﷺ أن تسبحوا في دبر كل صلاة ثلاثا وثلاثين، وتحمدوا الله ثلاثا وثلاثين، وتكبروا أربعا وثلاثين؛ قال: نعم، قال: فاجعلوا خمسا وعشرين، واجعلوا التهليل معهن، فغدا على النبي ﷺ فحدثه فقال: افعلوا. (أي التسبيح خمس وعشرون، والتحميد خمس وعشرون، والتكبير خمس وعشرون، ولا إله إلا الله خمس وعشرون فتلك مائة).
Tirmidhi (3413) and Nasai (1350) both narrated it through Hisham bin Hassan, from Muhammad bin Sirin, from Kathir bin Aflah, from Zayd bin Thabit, who mentioned something similar. Tirmidhi said, Sahih. Ibn Khuzayma (752) and Ibn Hibban (2017) also graded it sahih, narrating it through Uthman bin Umar, who said, Hisham bin Hassan informed us, with the same wording. Uthman bin Umar is al-Abdi al-Basri, a trustworthy narrator among the men relied upon by the whole community of scholars. Imam Ahmad also narrated it from him in his Musnad (21600) with the same chain of transmission mentioned above.
