The Prophet ﷺ was fighting an enemy, and the battle was not concluded until he had delayed the afternoon prayer past its proper time. When he saw this, he said, "O Allah, whoever has kept us from the middle prayer, fill their houses with fire and fill their graves with fire," or words to that effect.
قاتل النبي ﷺ عدوا، فلم يفرغ منهم حتى أخر العصر عن وقتها، فلما رأى ذلك قال: اللهم من حبسنا عن الصلاة الوسطى فاملأ بيوتهم نارا، واملأ قبورهم نارا أو نحو ذلك.
Imam Ahmad (2745), Tabarani in Al-Kabir (11905) and Al-Awsat (2016), and Bazzar in Kashf Astar (389) all narrated it, all of them by the route of Hilal bin Khabab, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, who mentioned it. Abd bin Humayd narrated it in Al-Muntakhab (576) by this same route, and in it he said, "So fill their hearts with fire."Its isnad is hasan. Hilal bin Khabab, Abu Ala Basri, is a narrator from whom the authors of the Sunan collections transmitted. Yahya, Ahmad, and others deemed him trustworthy, and Ibn Hibban criticized him without adducing evidence, so he does not fall below the rank of hasan.Tahawi narrated it in Sharh Maani al-Athar (1/174) with another isnad, from Hakam, from Miqsam and Saeed bin Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, in abridged form.
