On the day of the Battle of the Confederates, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "May Allah fill their houses and their graves with fire. They distracted us from the middle prayer until the sun set."
لما كان يوم الأحزاب قال رسول الله ﷺ: ملا الله بيوتهم وقبورهم نارا شغلونا عن الصلاة الوسطى حتى غابت الشمس.
Bukhari related it in Jihad wal-Siyar (2931), in Maghazi (4111), in Tafsir (4533), and in Dawaat (6396), and Muslim related it in Masajid (627), both of them through routes going back to Hisham, from Muhammad, from Ubayda, from Ali bin Abu Talib, who then related the hadith.Hisham is Ibn Abu Abdullah Sanbar Dastawai, though it is also possible that he is Ibn Hassan Qurdusi, for he is among the most reliable people regarding Muhammad bin Sirin. And Muhammad is Ibn Sirin. And Ubayda, with a fatha on the ain, is Ibn Amr Salmani Muradi.Muslim also related, from Shutayr bin Shakl, from Ali, who said, "They kept us occupied away from the middle prayer, the Asr prayer..." Then he prayed it between the two evening prayers, between Maghrib and Isha.He also related it through routes going back to Shuba, who said, I heard Qatada narrating from Abu Hassan, from Ubayda, from Ali, "They kept us occupied away from the middle prayer until the sun set. May Allah fill their graves with fire, or their houses, or their bellies..." Shuba was uncertain about the houses and the bellies.Ibn Abu Adi related, from Saeed, from Qatada with this same chain, and he said, "their houses and their graves," without expressing any uncertainty.His statement "the sun set" means it went down.
