There is a prayer such that whoever misses it is as though he has been bereaved of his family and stripped of his wealth.
من الصلاة صلاة، من فاتته فكأنما وتر أهله وماله.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Virtues (3602), and Muslim in the Book of Tribulations (11/2886), both from the hadith of Salih bin Kaysan, from Ibn Shihab, who said, Abu Bakr bin Abdul-Rahman bin Harith narrated to me, from Abdul-Rahman bin Mutee bin Aswad, from Nawfal bin Muawiya, and he related the hadith. This unspecified prayer comes explained in Sunan Nasai (478), by way of Haywa bin Shurayh, Jafar bin Rabia narrated to us, that Arak bin Malik told him, that Nawfal bin Muawiya told him that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever misses the Asr prayer is as if he has been robbed of his family and his wealth." Arak said, and Abdullah bin Umar informed me that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever misses the Asr prayer is as if he has been robbed of his family and his wealth."Yazid bin Abu Habib differed from him. Nasai said, Isa bin Hammad Zughba informed us, saying, Layth narrated to us, from Yazid bin Abu Habib, from Arak bin Malik, that it reached him that Nawfal bin Muawiya said, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Among the prayers is a prayer, whoever misses it is as if he has been robbed of his family and his wealth." Ibn Umar said, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "It is the Asr prayer."Muhammad bin Ishaq differed from him. Nasai said, Ubaydullah bin Saad bin Ibrahim bin Saad informed us, saying, my uncle narrated to me, saying, my father narrated to us, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, who said, Yazid bin Abu Habib narrated to me, from Arak bin Malik, who said, I heard Nawfal bin Muawiya say, the prayer, whoever misses it, has been robbed of his family and his wealth. Ibn Umar said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is the Asr prayer." End of the narration. Now know that the hadith of Nawfal bin Muawiya serves as a corroborating witness for the hadith of Abu Hurairah, which will come in the Book of Tribulations and the Signs of the Hour, though the prayer is not mentioned in it.As for his saying, "robbed of his family and his wealth," it has been transmitted in the accusative case, on the basis that "wutira" carries the meaning of "salaba" (to plunder), which takes two objects, so "his family and his wealth" becomes the second object. As for the first object, it is implied within "wutira," with the agent left unnamed, referring back to the one who missed the prayer. The meaning is that he has been struck in his family and his wealth, similar to His saying, "and never make your deeds go to waste" [Surah Muhammad 47:35]. It has also been read in the nominative case, with the meaning of "taken," in which case "his family and his wealth" becomes the subject of the passive verb.
