We were with Burayda on a military expedition on an overcast day, and he said, "Pray the afternoon prayer early, for the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Whoever abandons the afternoon prayer, his deeds are nullified.'"
كنا مع بريدة في غزوة في يوم ذي غيم، فقال: بكروا بصلاة العصر، فإن النبي ﷺ قال: من ترك صلاة العصر فقد حبط عمله.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Prayer Times (553), from Muslim bin Ibrahim, who said, Hisham narrated to us, who said, Yahya bin Abu Kathir narrated to us, from Abu Qilaba, from Abu Malih, who said, and then he related it.Here, "abandoning" means being negligent, which is why the companion urged hastening to it. As for what appears in some narrations, "Hasten to pray on a cloudy day, for whoever abandons the prayer has committed disbelief," this was narrated by Ibn Hibban (1463), but its chain contains Ishaq bin Ibrahim bin Ala Zubaydi. Abu Dawud said, He is of no worth, and he reported that Ibn Awf accused him of lying.I say, the second part of the hadith does not correspond with the first part, which urges hastening and not delaying in performing the prayer.
