He entered upon Anas bin Malik after the noon prayer, and Anas stood up to pray the afternoon prayer. When he had finished his prayer, we mentioned praying early, or he mentioned it, and he said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'That is the prayer of the hypocrites, that is the prayer of the hypocrites, that is the prayer of the hypocrites. One of them sits until, when the sun has turned yellow and is between the two horns of Satan, or upon the horn of Satan, he stands and pecks out four units, scarcely remembering Allah in them.'"
Malik narrated it in the Quran (46) from Ala bin Abdul-Rahman, who said, "We went in to see Anas bin Malik," and he mentioned the hadith.Muslim narrated it in the Masjids (622) through several routes from Ismail bin Jafar, from Ala bin Abdul-Rahman, that he went in to see Anas bin Malik at his house in Basra, when he had just come back from Dhuhr, his house being next to the masjid. When we went in to see him, he said, "Have you prayed Asr?" We said to him, "We have only just now come back from Dhuhr." He said, "Then pray Asr." So we got up and prayed. When we finished, he said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah say, 'That is the prayer of the hypocrite. He sits watching the sun, and when it is between the two horns of Satan, he gets up and pecks out four bows, barely remembering Allah in it at all.'"
