The muadhdhin of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called the adhan for the noon prayer, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Wait until it cools down, wait until it cools down," or he said, "Wait, wait." He said, "The intensity of the heat is from the blast of Hellfire, so when the heat becomes severe, delay the prayer until it cools down."Abu Dharr said, "We waited until we could see the shadows of the mounds."
أذن مؤذن رسول الله ﷺ بالظهر، فقال النبي ﷺ: أبرد أبرد أو قال: انتظر انتظر وقال: إن شدة الحر من فيح جهنم، فإذا اشتد الحر فأبردوا عن الصلاة. قال أبو ذر: حتى رأينا فى التلول.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Prayer Times (535), and Muslim in the Book of Mosques (616), both through the route of Shubah, from Muhajir Abu Hasan, who said, "I heard Zayd bin Wahb say, 'I heard Abu Dharr,'" and he mentioned the hadith. Their two wordings are close to each other. In a wording given by Bukhari (539), "We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey," and he mentioned the hadith.Ibn Abbas said, "Yatafayya means it leans and shifts." Tulul is the plural of tall, which refers to anything piled up on the ground, whether of dirt, sand, or the like.
