The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When the heat becomes intense, delay the prayer until it cools down, for the intensity of the heat is from the blast of Hell."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: إذا اشتد الحر، فأبردوا عن الصلاة، فإن شدة الحر من فيح جهنم.
Malik narrated it in "The Times of Prayer" (28, 29) through two routes, from Abdullah bin Yazid, the freedman of Aswad bin Sufyan, from Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman, and from Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman bin Thawban, from Abu Hurairah, mentioning something similar, and in it he said, "And it was mentioned that the Fire complained to its Lord, so it was given permission each year to breathe twice, one breath in winter and one breath in summer." And from Abu Zinad, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah, but he did not mention the second part.Via Malik's route from Abdullah bin Yazid, Muslim narrated it in "The Mosques" (617) similarly, then he also narrated it via the route of Yunus, from Ibn Shihab, who said, Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman told me that he heard Abu Hurairah say, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Fire complained to its Lord, saying, 'O Lord, part of me consumes another part,' so it was given permission to breathe twice, one breath in winter and one breath in summer, and that is the most intense heat you experience and the most intense cold you experience."In another version, "Whatever cold or intense cold you experience is from the breath of Hell, and whatever heat or scorching heat you experience is from the breath of Hell."As for Bukhari, he narrated it in "The Times of Prayer" (533, 534) through a route other than Malik's, from the hadith of Salih bin Kaysan, who said, Araj Abdul-Rahman and others narrated to us, from Abu Hurairah, and Nafi, the freedman of Abdullah bin Umar, from Abdullah bin Umar, that both of them narrated to him from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he said, "When the heat is intense, delay the prayer until it cools, for intense heat is from the exhalation of Hell." Likewise from the hadith of Sufyan, who said, we memorized it from Zuhri, from Saeed bin Musayab, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "When the heat is intense, delay the prayer until it cools, for intense heat is from the exhalation of Hell," and he said, "And the Fire complained to its Lord, saying," mentioning the same as before.
