Abu Muhammad claimed that the witr prayer is obligatory.Ubada bin Samit responded, "Abu Muhammad has spoken falsely. I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'There are five prayers which Allah the Exalted has made obligatory. Whoever performs their ablution well, prays them at their appointed times, and completes their bowing and humble submission, has a covenant with Allah that He will forgive him. But whoever does not do so has no covenant with Allah. If He wills, He may forgive him, and if He wills, He may punish him.'"
Abu Dawud (425) narrated it from Muhammad bin Harb Wasiti, who said, Yazid bin Harun narrated to us, Muhammad bin Mutarrif narrated to us, from Zayd bin Aslam, from Ata bin Yasar, from Abdullah bin Sanabihi, and he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih.Imam Ahmad (22704) narrated it from Husayn bin Muhammad, from Muhammad bin Mutarrif, with the same chain, and in it he said, Abdullah Sanabihi, without the word "bin."Bayhaqi narrated it through the route of Adam bin Abu Iyas, from Abu Ghassan Muhammad bin Mutarrif, who said in it, Abu Abdullah Sanabihi, and it contains no mention of Witr.Hafiz and others have determined that the correct name is Abu Abdullah Sanabihi, whose name is Abdul-Rahman bin Usayla, and he is thiqah. The hadith has another route, the details of which will come in the chapter on the Witr prayer.
