We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day on the Suffah when food was brought out for us and we ate. Then the prayer was called, and we prayed without performing ablution.
كنا يوما عند رسول الله ﷺ في الصفة، فوضع لنا طعام فأكلنا، ثم أقيمت الصلاة، فصلينا ولم نتوضأ.
Ahmad (17705) narrated it from Harun - his son Abdullah Abu Abdul-Rahman said, and I also heard it from Harun myself - he said, Abdullah bin Wahb narrated to us, he said, Haywa bin Shurayh informed me, he said, Uqba bin Muslim informed me, from Abdullah bin Harith bin Juz, and he mentioned something similar. Harun here is Ibn Maruf. Its chain is sahih.Ibn Majah (3300) narrated it via Abdullah bin Wahb, who said, Amr bin Harith informed me, he said, Sulayman bin Ziyad Hadrami narrated to me, that he heard Abdullah bin Harith bin Juz say, "We used to eat bread and meat in the masjid during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." He did not mention the prayer in it.The hadith has another chain narrated by Ibn Majah (3311) and Imam Ahmad (17702), both via Ibn Lahia, who said, Sulayman bin Ziyad Hadrami narrated to us, from Abdullah bin Harith bin Juz Zubaydi, who said, "We ate food with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the masjid, meat that had been grilled, then we wiped our hands with pebbles, then we stood up to pray without performing wudu." The wording is Imam Ahmad's, and Ibn Majah's wording is similar. There is well-known discussion regarding Ibn Lahia, but Tirmidhi narrated it in Shamail (167) from Qutayba - who is Ibn Saeed - from Ibn Lahia, in an abbreviated form, and Qutayba bin Saeed's narration from Ibn Lahia is sahih.Abu Dawud (193) narrated it via Ubayd bin Thumama Muradi, who said, "Abdullah bin Harith bin Juz, one of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, came to us in Egypt, and I heard him narrating in the masjid of Egypt. He said, 'I recall myself as the seventh of seven, or the sixth of six, with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a man's house. Bilal passed by and called him to prayer, so we went out and passed by a man with his pot of meat over the fire. The Messenger of Allah said to him, "Is your pot of meat done?" He said, "Yes, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you." So he took a piece of it and kept chewing it until he entered the state of ihram for prayer, while I was watching him.'"Its chain is daif, for no one narrated from Ubayd bin Thumama Muradi except Ibn Abu Karima. That is why Hafiz said in Taqrib, "Acceptable," but he is not problematic when supported by corroborating narrations, and the chain has already been established as sahih without him.
