The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah will say, 'Adam!'"Adam will reply, 'Here I am at Your service, ready to obey. All good is in Your hands.'"Allah will say, 'Send forth those destined for the Fire.'"Adam will ask, 'How many are those destined for the Fire?'"Allah will say, 'Out of every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine.'"That is the moment when a small child's hair turns grey, 'and every pregnant woman will deliver her burden, and you will see the people appearing drunk though they are not drunk, but the punishment of Allah is severe' [Hajj 22:2]."This weighed heavily on the companions, and they said, "Messenger of Allah, which one of us will be that man?"He answered, "Take heart. A thousand will come from Gog and Magog, and only one man from among you."Then he said, "By Him in whose hand my soul rests, I truly hope that you will make up a third of the people of Paradise."So we praised Allah and proclaimed His greatness. Then he said, "By Him in whose hand my soul rests, I truly hope that you will make up half of the people of Paradise. Among the nations you are like a single white hair on the hide of a black bull, or like the small mark on a donkey's foreleg."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Softening of Hearts (6528), and Muslim in the Book of Faith (221:377), both from the hadith of Jareer, from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Saeed Khudri, and he mentioned it.His statement, "That is when the young grow gray-haired," is consistent in meaning with the words of Allah Almighty, "So how will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, against a day that will turn children gray-haired?" [Muzzammil 73:17].
