Ibn Majah (454) narrated it from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, who said, "Abu Ahwas narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Saeed bin Abu Karab, from Jabir bin Abdullah," and he related it.Its isnad is sahih. Abu Ishaq is Subayi, who was a mudallis and used the ambiguous "an" form of transmission, and he also suffered confusion of memory later in life. However, Abu Ahwas heard from him before this confusion set in, and the two Shaykhs relied on him in their two Sahih collections. As for his use of "an", he did explicitly state that he heard directly, in the narration of Imam Ahmad (14965) from Muhammad bin Jafar, "Shuba narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, that he heard Saeed bin Abu Karab, or Shuayb bin Abu Karab," who said, "I heard Jabir bin Abdullah while he was on a camel," and he then related the hadith.
