I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he performed ablution, rub between the toes of his feet with his little finger.
رأيت رسول الله ﷺ إذا توضأ يدلك أصابع رجليه بخنصره.
Abu Dawud (148), Tirmidhi (40), and Ibn Majah (446) all narrated it through the route of Qutayba bin Saeed, who said, Ibn Lahia narrated to us, from Yazid bin Amr, from Abu Abdul-Rahman Hubli, from Mustawrid bin Shaddad, who related the same account.Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan gharib hadith we do not know except through the report of Ibn Lahia." End of quote. Tirmidhi thus explicitly stated that Ibn Lahia narrated it alone, but the matter is not so, for Layth bin Saad and Amr bin Harith also narrated it in agreement with him, as Bayhaqi mentioned (1/76). Moreover, Ibn Lahia also narrated it through Abdullah bin Wahb, and Tabarani likewise narrated it in Al-Kabir through the route of Abdullah bin Yazid Muqri, both of them narrating from Ibn Lahia. The majority hold that the narration of Ibn Wahb and Ibn Yazid took place before Ibn Lahia's books were burned, that is, before his confusion set in. For this reason, Ibn Qattan graded it sahih in his book Al-Wahm wal-Iham (5/264), and Hafiz likewise mentioned it in Talkhis (1/94).
