I was the delegate of Banu al-Muntafiq, or part of the delegation of Banu al-Muntafiq, to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He mentioned the story of his arrival at Ayesha's home, and how she ordered that a dish of khazira be prepared, until he met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, tell me about ablution."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Perform the ablution thoroughly, run your fingers between each other, and inhale water deeply into your nose, unless you are fasting."
كنت وافد بني المنتفق، أو في وفد بني المنتفق إلى رسول الله ﷺ، فذكر قصة نزوله على عائشة، وأنها أمرت بصنع خزيرة إلى أن لقي رسول الله ﷺ، فقال: يا رسول الله! أخبرني عن الوضوء، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: أسبغ الوضوء، وخلل بين الاصابع، وبالغ في الاستنشاق إلا أن تكون صائما.
Reported by Abu Dawud (142) at length, and this is his wording, and Tirmidhi (38), and Nasai (114), and Ibn Majah (407, 448) in a shortened form. All of them narrated it from the hadith of Ismail bin Kathir Abu Hashim Makki from Asim bin Laqit, with this wording. In some of the narrations it reads, "When you perform wudu, rinse your mouth." The narrators of the chain are trustworthy. Tirmidhi said, "Hasan sahih." Ibn Khuzayma (150) also graded it sahih, as did Ibn Hibban in al-Mawarid (159) and Hakim (1/147–148), who said it is sahih.Tirmidhi said, "The practice among the people of knowledge is that one should run water between the toes during wudu, and this is the view of Ahmad and Ishaq." Ishaq said, "One should run water between the fingers of the hands and the toes of the feet during wudu."As for khazira, it is meat cut into small pieces over which a large amount of water is poured, and when it is cooked, flour is stirred into it.
