A wolf attacked a sheep and seized it, but the shepherd pursued the wolf and snatched the sheep back from him. The wolf then sat back on its tail and said, "Do you not fear Allah? You take from me a provision that Allah has driven my way."The shepherd exclaimed, "How astonishing! A wolf sitting on its tail and speaking to me in human speech?"The wolf replied, "Shall I tell you of something even more astonishing? Muhammad ﷺ is in Yathrib, informing people of the events that have come before."The shepherd then drove his flock until he entered Madinah, where he gathered them into one of its corners. He went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him what had happened. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave the order, and the call went out, "Gather for prayer." Then he came out and said to the shepherd, "Tell them." So the shepherd told them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He has spoken the truth. By the One in whose hand is my soul, the Hour will not come until wild beasts speak to humans, and a man is spoken to by the tip of his whip and the strap of his sandal, and his thigh informs him of what his family did after he left them."
Narrated by Ahmad (11792), and this is his wording, Abd bin Humayd (877), Tirmidhi (2181) who did not mention the story of the wolf, Hakim (4/467), and Bayhaqi in Dalail (6/42), all of them through the route of Qasim bin Fadl Haddani, from Abu Nadra (he is Mundhir bin Malik Abdi), from Abu Saeed Khudri, who narrated it. Its isnad is sahih. Hakim and Bayhaqi both graded it sahih, and Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih gharib hadith."
