The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us and delivered a speech in which he informed us about the beginning of creation, continuing until the people of Paradise had entered their dwellings and the people of the Fire had entered theirs. Whoever retained it retained it, and whoever forgot it forgot it.
قام فينا رسول الله ﷺ مقاما، فأخبرنا عن بدء الخلق حتى دخل أهل الجنة منازلهم، وأهل النارمنازلهم، حفظ ذلك من حفظه، ونسيه من نسي.
Tabarani narrated it in Musnad Raqaba bin Masqala, his own compilation, and Ibn Manda in his Amali (and through both of their routes, Ibn Hajar in Taghliq Taliq, 3/487), from the narration of Isa bin Musa, from Abu Jamra, from Raqaba bin Masqala, from Qays bin Muslim, from Tariq bin Shihab, who said, I heard Umar bin Khattab say... then he mentioned it.Bukhari mentioned it in "Beginning of Creation" (3192) as a suspended narration from Isa bin Musa with the same chain, except that the mention of Abu Jamra was dropped from it, as Ibn Hajar noted. Its chain is sahih, and the discussion of it is elaborated in the book "Beginning of Creation."It was narrated from Abu Saeed Khudri, who said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in the Asr prayer one day during daylight, then he stood up to deliver a sermon, and he did not leave out anything that would happen up to the establishment of the Hour without telling us about it. Whoever memorized it, memorized it, and whoever forgot it, forgot it." Among what he said was, "This world is sweet and green, and Allah has made you successors in it, watching how you will act. So beware of this world, and beware of women." And among what he said was, "Let not fear of people prevent a man from speaking the truth when he knows it." He said, Abu Saeed then wept and said, "By Allah, we have seen things and grown fearful." Among what he said was, "A banner will be raised for every treacherous person on the Day of Resurrection in proportion to his treachery, and no treachery is greater than the treachery of a ruler over the general public, whose banner will be planted at his backside." Among what we remembered that day was,"The children of Adam were created in various different classes. Some of them are born believers, live as believers, and die as believers. Some are born disbelievers, live as disbelievers, and die as disbelievers. Some are born believers, live as believers, and die as disbelievers. And some are born disbelievers, live as disbelievers, and die as believers. Some of them are slow to anger and quick to calm down, and some are quick to anger and quick to calm down, so that balances out. Some of them are quick to anger and slow to calm down. The best of them is the one who is slow to anger and quick to calm down, and the worst of them is the one who is quick to anger and slow to calm down. Some of them are good at repaying debts and good at asking for repayment, some are bad at repaying debts but good at asking for repayment, and some are good at repaying debts but bad at asking for repayment, so that balances out. Some of them are bad at repaying debts and bad at asking for repayment. The best of them is the one who is good at repaying debts and good at asking for repayment, and the worst of them is the one who is bad at repaying debts and bad at asking for repayment. Indeed, anger is a burning coal in the heart of the son of Adam. Have you not seen the redness of his eyes and the swelling of his neck veins? So whoever feels anything of that should press himself to the ground."He said, "We began looking at the sun to see how much of it remained." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What remains of this world compared to what has already passed of it is like what remains of this day of yours compared to what has already passed of it."Tirmidhi narrated it (2191), and this is his wording, as did Ahmad (11143) and Hakim (4/505), all of them through the route of Ali bin Zayd bin Jadan Qurashi, from Abu Nadra, from Abu Saeed Khudri, who mentioned it.Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan hadith."Hakim said, "This hadith with this wording was narrated solely by Ali bin Zayd bin Jadan Qurashi, from Abu Nadra, and the two Shaykhs did not rely on Ali bin Zayd as evidence."Dhahabi responded to him by saying, "Ibn Jadan's hadith is acceptable."I say, the more correct view is that he is daif, and Dhahabi mentioned some of his hadiths in Mizan and said that they are munkar. But some passages of it have sahih chains, such as his saying, "This world is sweet and green," and "speaking the truth," and "warning against treachery," and these are documented in their respective places. The parts of this sermon have come down scattered in the books on tribulations, great battles, signs of the Hour, accounts of past peoples, and similar topics, for they contain portions of this sermon. These books also include other hadiths on various topics and occasions, so nothing from this sermon has been lost at all. This is indicated by the statement of Huzaifa, "Whoever memorized it, memorized it, and whoever forgot it, forgot it. These companions of mine have learned it. Sometimes something from it that I had forgotten comes back to me, and I remember it just as a man remembers the face of another man when he has been away from him, and then when he sees him again he recognizes him."I have attempted, in Jami Kamil, to gather the parts of this sermon from its various sources, and here for you is the hadith of Huzaifa bin Yaman mentioning this sermon.
