Ali reported, "Abu Qasim instructed me that if I ever lived to see anything of these troubles, meaning the trials and civil strife, I should go to a rocky place and break my sword upon it, then sit in my house. If anyone enters upon me in my house," he said, "sit in your inner chamber. If he enters upon you there, fall to your knees and say, 'Bear my sin and your own, so you will be among the companions of the Fire, and that is the recompense of the wrongdoers.' I have already broken my sword, so if anyone enters my house, I will go into my inner chamber, and if he enters my chamber, I will fall to my knees and say what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told me to say."
Bazzar (3377) narrated it from Ibrahim bin Abdullah, who said, Bishr bin Muhammad bin Aban told us, Ziyad bin Abu Muslim Abu Umar Saffar told us, I heard Abu Ashath Sanani say, Yazid bin Muawiya sent me to Abdullah bin Abu Awfa. I arrived accompanied by some companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I said, "What do you instruct the people to do?" He said, "Abu Qasim advised me," and he related it.Bishr bin Muhammad bin Aban has some minor criticism directed at him. Ibn Adi said, "I hope there is no harm in him." He has also been corroborated in general, for Ahmad (171982) narrated it from Abdul-Samad, who said, Ziyad bin Muslim Abu Umar told us, Abu Ashath Sanani told us, Yazid bin Muawiya sent us to Ibn Zubayr. When I arrived in Madinah, I went to see so-and-so, Ziyad forgot his name, and he said, "The people have done what they have done, so what do you think?" He said, "My close friend Abu Qasim advised me," and he related something similar. Its chain is hasan because of Ziyad bin Abu Muslim Saffar, for his hadith is hasan so long as he does not bring something objectionable. The companion whose name was forgotten is Abdullah bin Abu Awfa, as appears in the hadith of Bazzar. As for his statement, "Yazid bin Muawiya sent me to Abdullah bin Abu Awfa," the correct account is that he was sent to Ibn Zubayr in Makkah, and he was on his way to Makkah when he passed through Madinah, where he met Abdullah bin Abu Awfa and heard this hadith from him.
