The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "How will you fare with leaders after me who monopolize this war booty for themselves?"I said, "By the One who sent you with the truth, in that case I would place my sword on my shoulder and strike with it until I meet you or join you."He replied, "Shall I not guide you to something better than that? Be patient until you meet me."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: كيف أنتم وأئمة من بعدي يستأثرون بهذا الفيء؟ قلت: إذن، والذي بعثك بالحق أضع سيفي على عاتقي ثم أضرب به حتى ألقاك أو ألحقك قال: أولا أدلك على خير من ذلك؟ تصبر حتى تلقاني.
Reported by Abu Dawud (4759) and Ahmad (21558), both by way of Zuhayr (that is, Ibn Muawiya), who said, Mutarrif bin Tareef narrated to us, from Abu Jahm (that is, Sulayman bin Jahm), from Khalid bin Wahban, from Abu Dharr, who related it. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Khalid bin Wahban, as mentioned before.
