Umar bin Khattab delivered a sermon at al-Jabiyah and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us as I stand among you now and said, 'Treat my Companions well, then those who come after them, then those who come after them. After that, lying will spread until a man will give testimony before being asked for it, and swear an oath before being asked to swear. Whoever among you desires the heart of Paradise, let him hold fast to the community, for Satan is with the one who is alone, and he is farther from two. None of you should be alone with a woman, for Satan is the third of them. Whoever is gladdened by his good deeds and grieved by his evil deeds is a believer.'"
Reported by Ahmad (114), Ibn Hibban (7254), and Hakim (1/113), all of them by way of Abdullah bin Mubarak, who said, Muhammad bin Suqa informed us, from Abdullah bin Dinar, from Ibn Umar, and he mentioned it...Tirmidhi (2165) also reported it from Ahmad bin Mani, who said, Nadr bin Ismail narrated to us, from Muhammad bin Suqa, with the same wording. He said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith, gharib by this route. Ibn Mubarak reported it from Muhammad bin Suqa. This hadith has also been reported by another route from Umar, from the Prophet ﷺ," meaning as a connected chain. End quote. However, Abu Zura, Abu Hatim, and Daraqutni preferred the mursal version, and the ruling belongs to whoever connects the chain.
