A man came to Ibn Abbas and said, "I am a man who paints these images. Give me your verdict concerning them."Ibn Abbas said to him, "Come closer to me."The man drew near. Then he said again, "Come closer."The man came nearer until Ibn Abbas placed his hand upon his head and said, "I will tell you what I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Every image-maker will be in the Fire. For every image he made, a soul will be assigned to it which will torment him in Hell.'"Then Ibn Abbas said, "If you must do it, then make images of trees and things that have no soul."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Clothing (2110). Muslim said, I read to Nasr bin Ali Jahdami, from Abdul-Ala bin Abdul-Ala, who said, Yahya bin Abu Ishaq narrated to us, from Saeed bin Abu Hasan, who said, then he related the hadith, and Nasr bin Ali confirmed it.
