The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a ring made of gold, and when he wore it, he would turn its stone toward the inside of his palm. So the people had rings made for themselves as well. Then he sat upon the pulpit, removed it, and said, "I used to wear this ring and turn its stone to the inside." He cast it aside and said, "By Allah, I will never wear it again." So the people threw away their rings as well.In another narration, "And he took a ring of silver instead."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Dress (5876), and Muslim in the Book of Dress and Adornment (2091), both from the hadith of Nafi, from Abdullah, and he related it. The wording given here is Muslim's. Juwayriyah said, "I do not think he said anything except, In his right hand."
