The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered the Muslim women to take their pledge of allegiance. Asma said to him, "Will you not uncover your hand for us, Messenger of Allah?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "I do not shake hands with women, but I take their pledge by word."Among the women was an aunt of hers who wore two gold bracelets and gold rings. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "You there, would it please you that Allah adorn you on the Day of Resurrection with two bracelets and rings made from the embers of Hellfire?"She said, "I seek refuge with Allah, Prophet of Allah."She said, I told her, "Aunt, throw off what you are wearing." So she threw it off. Asma told me, "By Allah, my son, she threw it down, and I do not know who picked it up from its place, nor did any of us turn to look at it."Asma said, I then said, "Prophet of Allah, one of us becomes displeasing to her husband when she does not put on something attractive or wear ornaments for him."The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, "What harm is there if one of you takes two silver earrings and makes for herself two silver beads, then rolls them between her fingertips with a bit of saffron? They will then gleam like gold."
Ahmad (27572) narrated it from Hashim, who is Ibn Qasim, he said, Abdul-Hameed narrated to us, he said, Shahr bin Hawshab narrated to us, he said, Asma bint Yazid narrated to me, and he mentioned it.Its isnad is hasan because of Shahr bin Hawshab, for his hadith is hasan when he does not contradict others. In the hadith that follows this one, it is Asma who took off the two gold bracelets, so this should be understood as the story having happened to both women together in a single gathering.
