Asma said, I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to give him my pledge of allegiance. I drew near to him while wearing two gold bracelets. He noticed their glimmer and said, "Throw off the bracelets, Asma. Do you not fear that Allah will adorn you with bracelets of fire?"She said, So I threw them off, and I do not know who picked them up.
أتيت رسول الله ﷺ لأبايعه، فدنوت، وعلي سواران من ذهب، فبصر ببصيصهما، فقال: ألقي السوارين يا أسماء، أما تخافين أن يسورك الله بسوار من نار. قالت: فألقيتهما، فما أدري من أخذهما.
Ahmad (27563) narrated it, and this is his wording, and Tabarani (24/182) also narrated it, both of them from the route of Shahr bin Hawshab, who met Asma bint Yazid. He said, "She told me," and then related the hadith. Its isnad is hasan, given the discussion concerning Shahr bin Hawshab, though his hadith is hasan when he does not contradict others and does not bring anything objectionable in his narration. Ahmad (27578) also narrated it through another route from Shahr bin Hawshab from Asma with similar wording.Abu Dawud (4238) and Nasai (5139) both narrated it from the hadith of Yahya bin Abu Kathir, that Mahmud bin Amr Ansari told him that Asma bint Yazid told him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Any woman who wears a necklace of gold will have its like put around her neck from the fire on the Day of Resurrection, and any woman who puts a gold ring in her ear will have its like put in her ear from the fire on the Day of Resurrection."In it is Mahmud bin Amr bin Yazid bin Sakan Ansari, whom no one deemed reliable except Ibn Hibban, and therefore Hafiz said, "Acceptable," and that is indeed the case, since he has been corroborated.
