I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "Only those who do not hope to wear silk in the Hereafter wear it in this world. Silk is worn only by those who have no share in the Hereafter."
سمعت النبي ﷺ يقول: إنما يلبس الحرير في الدنيا من لا يرجو أن يلبسه في الآخرة، إنما يلبس الحرير من لا خلاق له.
Ahmad (8355) narrated it from Abu Nadr, who said, Mubarak narrated to us, from Hasan, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it.Mubarak is Ibn Fadala Basri, well known for practicing tadlis, both tadlis and taswiya. Hasan is Imam Basri, well known for tadlis, and he did not hear from Abu Hurairah.However, Tahawi narrated it in Sharh Maani al-Athar (6539), and Hakim (4/141) narrated it through another route, from Yahya bin Hamza, who said, Zayd bin Waqid narrated to me, that Khalid bin Abdullah bin Husayn related to him, saying, Abu Hurairah narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever wears silk in this world will not wear it in the hereafter, whoever drinks wine in this world will not drink it in the hereafter, and whoever drinks from vessels of silver and gold will not drink from them in the hereafter." Then he said, "That is the clothing of the people of Paradise, the drink of the people of Paradise, and the vessels of the people of Paradise." The wording given is that of Tahawi.Regarding Khalid bin Abdullah bin Husayn, Abu Dawud said, "He was the most intelligent person of his time," and Bukhari said, "He heard from Abu Hurairah." Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators, and a number of narrators reported from him, so his hadith is hasan. It is further supported by the first chain, despite what has been said about it, and the hadith is the hadith of Abu Hurairah.
