I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Silk and gold are forbidden for the males of my nation and permitted for its females."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: الحرير والذهب حرام على ذكور أمتي، حل لإناثهم.
Tahawi related it in Sharh Mushkil (416) from Ibrahim bin Abu Dawud and Fahd, who both said, Saeed bin Abu Maryam told us, Yahya bin Ayub informed us, Hasan bin Thawban and Amr bin Harith told me, from Hisham bin Abu Ruqayya Lakhmi, who said, I heard Maslama bin Mukhallad say to Uqba bin Amir, "Stand and tell the people what you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." So Uqba stood and mentioned this hadith, along with another hadith, which is, "Whoever lies about me, let him find himself a place in Hell."Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Hisham bin Abu Ruqayya, and Ibn Hajar also graded it hasan.
