Ali said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever lies about me deliberately, let him take his seat in the Fire.' And I bear witness that I heard him say, 'Whoever wears silk in this world will be forbidden from wearing it in the Hereafter.'"
إني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: من كذب علي متعمدا فليتبوأ مقعده من النار، وأشهد أني سمعته يقول: من لبس الحرير في الدنيا، حرمه أن يلبسه في الآخرة.
Reported by Ahmad (17431), Abu Yaala (1751), and Tabarani in al-Kabir (17/327), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (5436), all of them through routes from Ibn Wahb, who said, Amr bin Harith informed me that Hisham bin Abu Raqiya told him, saying, I heard Maslama bin Makhlad, while he was sitting on the pulpit delivering a sermon to the people, saying, "O people, do you not have in striped cloth and linen enough to spare you from silk? Here is a man among you who can tell you about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Stand up, Uqba." So Uqba bin Amir stood up while I was listening, and he said, then he related the hadith.Its chain is hasan because of Hisham bin Abu Raqiya, who is among the men of Tajil. A number of narrators reported from him, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in al-Thiqat (5015), and Ajli said, "An Egyptian, a taabi, trustworthy."His statement, "Allah forbade him from wearing it in the hereafter" is a figure of speech for not entering Paradise, for Allah the Exalted said concerning the people of Paradise, "and their garments therein will be silk" [Hajj 22:23]. This is how some of the early scholars explained it.
