I came to the Prophet ﷺ when I had long hair. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw me, he said, "An evil, an evil."So I went back and cut it, then came to him the next day.He said, "I did not mean you, but this is better."
أتيت النبي ﷺ ولي شعر طويل، فلما رآني رسول الله ﷺ قال: ذباب ذباب قال: فرجعت فجززته، ثم أتيته من الغد. فقال: إني لم أعنك، وهذا أحسن.
Abu Dawud (4190), Nasai (5052, 5066), and Ibn Majah (3636) all narrated it from the hadith of Sufyan, from Asim bin Kulayb, from his father, from Waail bin Hajar, and he related it. Its isnad is hasan because of Asim bin Kulayb and his father Kulayb bin Shihab, for they both make the hadith hasan.A note on it, "dhubab" means ill omen, that is, this is an ill omen. It has also been said that dhubab means persistent evil. It is said, "A dhubab from this matter befell you," as mentioned in Nihayah.
