The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade using the hides of predatory animals as floor coverings.
أن رسول الله ﷺ نهى عن جلود السباع أن تفترش.
Reported by Abu Dawud (4132), Tirmidhi (1770), Ahmad (20706), and Hakim (1/144), all of them from the hadith of Saeed bin Abu Aruba, from Qatada, from Abu Malih, from his father Usama, and he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih, except that Tirmidhi said, "Shuba reported it, from Yazid Rishk, from Abu Malih, from the Prophet ﷺ, that he forbade the skins of predatory animals. And this is more sahih," meaning the mursal version. Hakim said, "This chain of transmission is sahih, for Abu Malih's name is Amir bin Usama, and his father is Usama bin Umayr, a companion from Banu Lihyan, who is cited in the Masanid, but the two of them (Bukhari and Muslim) did not report it."
