The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not ride on silk brocade, nor on leopard skins." Muawiya was considered trustworthy in narrating hadith only from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
قال رسول الله ﷺ: لا تركبوا الخز، ولا النمار. وكان معاوية لا يتهم في الحديث لا عن الرسول الله ﷺ.
Abu Dawud (4129), Ibn Majah (3656), and Ahmad (16840) all narrated it from the hadith of Waki, who said, our teacher Abu Mutamir told us, from Ibn Sirin, from Muawiya, and he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.His saying, "Do not ride khazz" means do not wear garments made of pure silk. And his saying, "Do not ride leopard skins" means do not sit on the skins of leopards and predators, nor use them as saddle covers, because doing so involves arrogance and vanity.
