I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a group from Mazina, and we pledged allegiance to him while the buttons of his shirt were undone. So I pledged allegiance to him, then I slipped my hand into the opening of his shirt and touched the Seal of Prophethood.Urwa said, "I never saw Muawiya or his son but with their shirt buttons undone, in winter or summer alike. They never fastened their buttons at all."
أتيت رسول الله ﷺ في رهط من مزينة، فبايعناه، وإن قميصه لمطلق الأزرار، قال: فبايعته ثم أدخلت يدي في جيب قميصه، فمسست الخاتم. قال عروة: فما رأيت معاوية ولا ابنه قط، إلا مطلقي أزرارهما في شتاء ولا حر، ولا يزرران أزرارهما أبدا.
Reported by Abu Dawud (4082), Ibn Majah (3578), Tirmidhi in Shamail (57), Ahmad (15581), and Ibn Hibban (5452), all of them through the route of Zuhayr bin Muawiya, who said, Urwa bin Abdullah bin Qushayr Abu Mahl Jufi told us, Muawiya bin Qurra told us, and he related it. Its chain is sahih.Related in the same meaning is what was narrated from Ibn Umar, who said, "I saw the Prophet ﷺ with his buttons undone." Bazzar reported it in Kashf Astar (127) from Amr bin Malik, who said, Walid bin Muslim told us, from Zuhayr bin Muhammad, from Zayd bin Aslam, who said, "I saw Ibn Umar with his buttons undone, and he said, 'I saw the Prophet ﷺ'" and he related it.Bazzar said, "We do not know of it being narrated from Ibn Umar except through this chain." I say, in it is Bazzar's teacher Amr bin Malik Rasibi, who is daif. Ibn Hibban said, "He produces isolated reports and makes mistakes," and Ibn Adi said, "His hadith is objectionable." Also in it is Walid bin Muslim, who is a mudallis and has narrated here using "an" (without specifying direct transmission).
