I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for clothing, and he clothed me with two coarse linen garments. Indeed, I saw myself as the best-clothed among my companions.
استكسيت رسول الله ﷺ، فكساني خيشتين، فلقد رأيتني وأنا أكسى أصحابي.
Reported by Abu Dawud (4032) and Ahmad (17656), both through the route of Ismail bin Ayyash, from Aqeel bin Mudrik Sulami, from Luqman bin Amir Wasabi, from Utba bin Abdul-Sulami, who related it.Its chain is hasan, because of Ismail bin Ayyash and his teacher Aqeel bin Mudrik, both of whom are Syrian. This Aqeel was narrated from by a number of people, Ibn Hibban deemed him trustworthy, and no one has criticized him.His statement, "khaysh", refers to garments made from the coarse fiber and lowest quality of flax, or a rough fabric made from jute fiber, from which sacks and bags are made.
