Ubayy said to me, "My son, if you had seen us with our Prophet ﷺ when the rain had fallen upon us, you would have thought our smell was the smell of sheep."
قال لي أبي: يا بني لو رأيتنا ونحن مع نبينا ﷺ وقد أصابتنا السماء حسبت أن ريحنا ريح الضأن.
Reported by Abu Dawud (4033), Tirmidhi (2479), Ibn Majah (3562), and Ahmad (19652), and Ibn Hibban (1235) and Hakim (4/188) graded it sahih, all of them narrating it from Qatada, from Abu Burda, who related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.Tirmidhi said, "This is a sahih hadith, and the meaning of the hadith is that their clothes were made of wool, so when rain fell on them, the smell of sheep would rise from their clothes."
