The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Eat, give in charity, and clothe yourselves without extravagance or arrogance."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: كلوا وتصدقوا والبسوا في غير إسراف ولا مخيلة.
Narrated by Nasai (2560), Ibn Majah (3605), and Ahmad (6695), all of them by way of Yazid bin Harun, from Hammam, from Qatada, from Amr bin Shuayb, from his father, from his grandfather, who related it. Its isnad is hasan due to the discussion surrounding Amr bin Shuayb's transmission from his father, from his grandfather.Bukhari cited it as a suspended report with a definitive attribution at the beginning of the Book of Clothing, from the Prophet ﷺ. He followed it with a saying of Ibn Abbas, also cited as suspended, "Eat whatever you wish, and wear whatever you wish, so long as you avoid two things, extravagance and vanity."
