Ali said, "I saw myself with the Prophet ﷺ, having built with my own hands a house that would shelter me from the rain and shade me from the sun, with no one from Allah's creation helping me with it."
رأيتني مع النبي ﷺ بنيت بيدي بيتا يكنني من المطر، ويظلني من الشمس، ما أعانني عليه أحد من خلق الله.
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on Seeking Permission (6302), from Abu Naeem, who said, "Ishaq (that is, Ibn Saeed) narrated to us, from Saeed, from Ibn Umar," and he mentioned it. His words, "with the Prophet ﷺ," mean during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ.Bukhari also narrated (6303) through the route of Sufyan bin Uyayna, who said, Amr said, Ibn Umar said, "By Allah, I have not laid one brick upon another, nor planted a palm tree, since the Prophet ﷺ passed away." Sufyan said, "I mentioned this to some of his family, and they said, 'By Allah, he did indeed build.'" Sufyan said, "I said, 'Perhaps he said that before he built.'"
