The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When Persia and Rome are conquered for you, what kind of people will you be?"Abd al-Rahman bin Awf replied, "We will say what Allah has commanded us to say."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Or something other than that. You will compete with one another, then you will envy one another, then you will turn your backs on one another, then you will hate one another," or words to that effect. "Then you will go to the poor among the Emigrants and set some of them over the necks of others."
عن رسول الله ﷺ أنه قال: إذا فتحت عليكم فارس والروم أي قوم أنتم؟ قال عبد الرحمن بن عوف: نقول كما أمرنا الله، قال رسول الله ﷺ: أو غير ذلك، تتنافسون، ثم تتحاسدون، ثم تتدابرون، ثم تتباغضون أو نحو ذلك، ثم تنطلقون في مساكين المهاجرين، فتجعلون بعضهم على رقاب بعض.
Muslim narrated it in Zuhd and Raqaiq (2962) from Amr bin Sawad Amiri, Abdullah bin Wahb informed us, Amr bin Harith informed me, that Bakr bin Sawada told him that Yazid bin Rabah, who is Abu Firas, the freed servant of Abdullah bin Amr bin As, told him, on the authority of Abdullah bin Amr bin As, and he mentioned it.
