Urwa bin Zubayr reported,

Miswar bin Makhrama reported that Amr bin Awf, an ally of the tribe of Amir bin Luayy who had been present at Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, told him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abu Ubayda bin al-Jarrah to Bahrain to collect its tribute. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had made a peace treaty with the people of Bahrain and had appointed Ala bin Hadrami over them.Abu Ubayda returned with the wealth from Bahrain, and the Ansar heard of his arrival. They came to perform the dawn prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the prayer and turned to leave, they presented themselves before him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled when he saw them and said, "I think you have heard that Abu Ubayda has arrived with something from Bahrain?"They replied, "Yes indeed, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Then rejoice and hope for what will please you. By Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you. Rather, I fear that the world will be spread out before you as it was spread out before those who came before you, and you will compete for it as they competed for it, and it will destroy you as it destroyed them."
