I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "My nation will be afflicted with the disease of the nations."They asked, "Prophet of Allah, what is the disease of the nations?"He replied, "Insolence and arrogance, the rivalry for accumulating wealth, competition over worldly gain, mutual hatred and envy, until it leads to oppression, and then to widespread killing."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: إنه سيصيب أمتي داء الأمم، قالوا: يا نبي الله، وما داء الأمم؟ قال: الأشر والبطر، والتكاثر والتنافس في الدنيا، والتباغض والتحاسد حتى يكون البغي، ثم يكون الهرج.

Ibn Abu Dunya narrated it in Dhamm al-Baghy (2), Tabarani in al-Awsat (Majma al-Bahrayn) (4442), and Hakim (4/168), all of them through the route of Abdullah bin Wahb, who said, Abu Hani Humayd bin Hani narrated to me, from Abu Saeed Ghifari, that he heard Abu Hurairah say, and then he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Abu Hani Humayd bin Hani, for he is hasan al-hadith. His teacher, Abu Saeed Ghifari, also said to be Abu Saad Ghifari, is among the men of al-Tajil. Two narrators reported from him, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators. He belongs to the generation of the Tabiin, and the basis of his hadith is sound, with nothing objectionable found in it, so the hadith of someone like him is graded hasan.His saying, "al-batar," means transgression that comes with prosperity and prolonged wealth. And "al-ashar" is more intense than al-batar. And "al-harj" means killing.
