Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

People used to come to the Prophet ﷺ who had no acquaintances to host them. So one man would take another by the hand, another would take two men, and another would take three, each according to his capacity. My brother-in-law took two men, so I took him aside and reproached him. I said, "You take on two men when your situation is what it is?"He replied, "We have provision from the provision of Allah. Come, let me show you."So I went with him, and he showed me some wheat and said, "This is what we have."I asked, "Where did you get this from?"He said, "We bought it from the caravan that arrived yesterday."Then he showed me a pile of dates the size of a camel's resting place and said, "And we have this too." He showed me a jar containing fat and said, "And this is oil and seasoning."Then he went with the two men to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, whether in the morning or the evening, having already fed them and oiled them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "I see your two companions in fine condition. How many meals do you feed them each day?"He said, "Two meals."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Two meals? Why not just one?"

Sahih
