My father said, "We lived with our Prophet ﷺ having no food except the two black things."Then he asked, "Do you know what the two black things are?"I said, "No."He said, "Dates and water."
قال أبي: عمرنا مع نبينا ﷺ وما لنا طعام إلا الأسودان، ثم قال: هل تدري ما الأسودان؟ قلت: لا، قال: التمر والماء.
Ahmad (16244) narrated it from Rawh, that is Ibn Ubada, who said, Bistam bin Muslim narrated to us, from Muawiya bin Qurra, who said, then he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih. As for his saying "the two black things," it has been said that "black" here is used by way of predominance for the blackness of dates, and so the term was applied to water and dates together.
