A bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ demanding repayment of a debt he was owed, and he was harsh with him, even saying, "I will press you hard until you pay me." His companions rebuked him and said, "Woe to you, do you know whom you are addressing?"He replied, "I am only seeking what is rightfully mine."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Why did you not stand with the one who has a rightful claim?"Then he sent word to Khawla bint Qays and said to her, "If you have any dates, lend them to us until our dates arrive, and we will repay you."She replied, "Yes, may my father be sacrificed for you, Messenger of Allah."So she lent them to him, and he settled the debt with the bedouin and fed him.The bedouin said, "You have paid in full, may Allah fulfill for you."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Such are the best of people. No nation is sanctified in which the weak cannot take their right without being shaken about."
Ibn Majah narrated it (2426), and this is his wording, as did Ibn Abu Shayba (22543), and from him Abu Yaala (1091), via Muhammad bin Abu Ubayda, who said, "My father narrated to me, from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Saeed Khudri," who then narrated it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.Munziri said in Targhib (2/611), "Abu Yaala narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of sahih hadith."Muhammad bin Abu Ubayda is Muhammad bin Abu Ubayda bin Maen Masudi, and the name of Abu Ubayda is Abdul-Malik, and both of them are trustworthy. As for his phrase "not disturbed," it means without being afflicted by any harm that would trouble or unsettle him.
