We complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about hunger and lifted our garments to show a stone tied against each of our bellies. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then lifted his garment to reveal two stones tied against his belly.
شكونا إلى رسول الله ﷺ الجوع، ورفعنا عن بطوننا عن حجر حجر، فرفع رسول الله ﷺ عن بطنه حجرين.
Tirmidhi related it in Jami (2371) and in Shamail (134), and Abu Shaykh related it in Akhlaq Nabi ﷺ (223), both of them through the route of Abdullah bin Abu Ziyad, who said, Sayar bin Hatim narrated to us, from Sahl bin the Prophet ﷺ Aslam, from Yazid bin Abu Mansur, from Anas bin Malik, from Abu Talha, who said, then he mentioned it.Tirmidhi said, "This is a rare hadith that we do not know except through this route." And in Shamail he said, "This is a rare hadith from the report of Abu Talha, we do not know it except through this route."This is as he said, for I did not find another chain for the hadith of Abu Talha. Its chain is hasan because of Sayar bin Hatim, for there is disagreement about him, though he is truthful in himself. He was criticized for narrating some heart-softening hadiths that contained objectionable material. As for the hadith mentioned here, its basis is established through the report of Jabir in Sahih Bukhari (4101), and it is recorded in the account of the Battle of the Trench.
