The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never had bread and meat together at lunch or dinner except when there was a crowd to share it with.
أن رسول الله ﷺ لم يجتمع له غداء ولا عشاء من خبز ولحم إلا على ضفف.
Tirmidhi related it in Shamail (139), Ahmad (13859), and Abu Yaala (3108), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (6359), all of them through the route of Affan bin Muslim, who said, Abu Aban bin Yazid related to us, who said, Qatada related to us, from Anas, who said, and then he mentioned it. Its isnad is sahih.Haythami said in Majma (15/5), "Ahmad and Abu Yaala related it, and their men are the men of the Sahih."His saying, "dafaf," with fatha on the dad and the fa, means constriction and hardship. It has also been said to mean the gathering of people, that is, along with the guests.
