Ibn Majah (193) narrated it, and this is his wording, and Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad (253), both through Abu Bakr Hanafi (whose name is Abdul-Kabir bin Abdul-Majid Basri), who said, Abdul-Hameed bin Jafar narrated to us, from Ibrahim bin Abdullah bin Hunain, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it. Its chain is hasan because of Abdul-Hameed bin Jafar, for he is hasan al-hadith.Something of similar meaning, with an addition, was narrated by Tirmidhi (2305) and Ahmad (8095), both from the hadith of Jafar bin Sulayman, from Abu Tariq, from Hasan, from Abu Hurairah, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who will take these words from me and act upon them, or teach them to someone who will act upon them?" Abu Hurairah said, I said, I will, Messenger of Allah. So he took my hand and counted off five things, and said, "Avoid what is forbidden and you will be the most devoted worshipper among people. Be content with what Allah has apportioned to you and you will be the wealthiest of people. Be good to your neighbor and you will be a believer. Love for people what you love for yourself and you will be a Muslim. And do not laugh too much, for excessive laughter deadens the heart."Its chain is daif. Tirmidhi said, "This is a gharib hadith, we do not know it except from the hadith of Jafar bin Sulayman, and Hasan never heard anything from Abu Hurairah. It has been narrated this way from Ayub, Yunus bin Ubayd, and Ali bin Zayd. Abu Ubayda Naji narrated this hadith from Hasan as his own statement, without mentioning in it 'from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ'."I say, besides its being disconnected, it also contains Abu Tariq, who is Saadi Basri, an unknown narrator as stated in Taqrib.
