The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "Which of the people is best?"He replied, "Everyone with a pure heart and a truthful tongue."They said, "A truthful tongue we understand, but what is a pure heart?"He said, "It is the heart of one who is godfearing and Naqi, with no sin in it, no transgression, no malice, and no envy."
قيل لرسول الله ﷺ: أي الناس أفضل؟ قال: كل مخموم القلب، صدوق اللسان، قالوا: صدوق اللسان نعرفه، فما مخموم القلب؟ قال: هو التقي النقي، لا إثم فيه ولا بغي، ولا غل ولا حسد.
Ibn Majah (4216), Kharaiti in Makarim al-Akhlaq (45), and Tabarani in Musnad Shamiyin (1218) all narrated it through the route of Zayd bin Waqid, who said, Mugheeth bin Sumayy narrated to us, from Abdullah bin Amr, who said, and then he related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.Abu Hatim graded it sahih, saying, "This hadith is sahih hasan, and Zayd is trustworthy in his standing, though he held the view of the Qadariyyah." Ilal al-Hadith (1873).I say, Zayd bin Waqid is considered reliable by the majority of critics. He was deemed reliable by Ahmad bin Hanbal, Ibn Main, Daraqutni, and others.
