I asked the Prophet ﷺ about menstrual blood that gets on a garment. He said, "Scrape it off with a rib, then wash it with water and lote-tree leaves."
سألت النبي ﷺ عن دم الحيض يكون في الثوب قال: حكيه بضلع واغسليه بماء وسدر.
Abu Dawud (363), Nasai (292), and Ibn Majah (628) all narrated it via Sufyan, from Thabit bin Hurmuz Abu Miqdam, from Adi bin Dinar, from Umm Qays, and she related the hadith.Its isnad is sahih. Thabit bin Hurmuz was deemed reliable by Ahmad and Ibn Main, and Adi bin Dinar was deemed reliable by Nasai, and he is the freed servant of Umm Qays bint Mihsan.Ibn Khuzayma (277) and Ibn Hibban (1395) also graded it sahih, both from this same route.Ibn Qattan said in Bayan al-Wahm wal-Ihaam 5/281, "This is at the utmost level of soundness... and I do not know of any defect in this isnad.""Al-hakk" (scratching) is the same as "al-hatt" (rubbing off) mentioned in the hadith of Asma cited earlier, in the second version narrated by Bukhari, and what is meant by it is removing the mark itself."Al-dila" (with a short i sound on the dad and a short a sound on the lam) means a stick.
