Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him."The narrator said, I went to Ayesha and said, "Umm Muiminin, I heard Abu Hurairah mention a hadith from the Messenger of Allah. If it is as he reported, then we are doomed."She replied, "The one who is doomed is the one doomed by the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. What is it?"He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him.' Yet there is not one of us who does not hate death."She said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did say it, but it does not mean what you suppose. Rather, when the gaze becomes fixed, the chest rattles, the skin shivers, and the fingers stiffen, at that moment, whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him."
أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: من أحب لقاء الله أحب الله لقاءه، ومن كره لقاء الله كره الله لقاءه. قال: فأتيت عائشة، فقلت: يا أم المؤمنين سمعت أبا هريرة يذكر عن رسول الله حديثا، إن كان كذلك فقد هلكنا، فقالت: إن الهالك من هلك بقول رسول الله ﷺ. وما ذاك؟ قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: من أحب لقاء الله أحب الله لقاءه، ومن كره لقاء الله كره الله لقاءه. وليس منا أحد إلا وهو يكره الموت، فقالت: قد قاله رسول الله ﷺ وليس بالذي تذهب إليه، ولكن إذا شخص البصر، وحشرج الصدر، واقشعر الجلد، وتشنجت الأصابع، فعند ذلك، من أحب لقاء الله، أحب الله لقاءه، ومن كره لقاء الله، كره الله لقاءه.
Muslim narrated it in the Chapter on Remembrance and Supplication (2685) from Saeed bin Amr Ashathi, from Abthar, from Mutarrif, from Amir, from Shurayh bin Hani, who mentioned it.
