A man cursed the wind in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ, so he said, "Do not curse the wind, for it is under command. Whoever curses something that does not deserve it, the curse returns upon him."
أن رجلا لعن الريح عند النبي ﷺ فقال: لا تلعن الريح فإنها مأمورة، وإنه من لعن شيئا ليس له بأهل رجعت اللعنة عليه.
Abu Dawud (4908) and Tirmidhi (1978) narrated it, and Ibn Hibban (5745) graded it sahih, all of them through the route of Bishr bin Umar, who said, Abu Aban bin Yazid narrated to us, from Qatada, from Abu Aliyah, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it.Tirmidhi said, "This is a gharib hadith, we do not know anyone who traced it with a full chain except Bishr bin Umar." In other copies it reads, "hasan gharib."I say, Bishr bin Umar is trustworthy, and his being alone in narrating it does not cause harm, but Muslim bin Ibrahim contradicted him, narrating it from Abu Aban bin Yazid as mursal, without mentioning Ibn Abbas. Abu Dawud also narrated this version. The ruling belongs to the one who connects the chain.Munziri said, "This Bishr is trustworthy, Bukhari and Muslim and others relied on him as evidence, and I know of no criticism of him." So perhaps Abu Aliyah narrated the hadith in both ways, and an addition from a trustworthy narrator is accepted.
