The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When a servant curses something, the curse rises up to the heavens, but the gates of heaven are shut against it. Then it descends to the earth, but its gates are shut against it as well. So it turns right and left, and when it finds no way through, it returns to the one who was cursed. If that one deserved it, the curse settles upon him, but if not, it returns to the one who uttered it."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن العبد إذا لعن شيئا صعدت اللعنة إلى السماء فتغلق أبواب السماء دونها، تهبط إلى الأرض فتغلق أبوابها دونها، ثم تأخذ يمينا وشمالا، فإذا لم تجد مساغا رجعت إلى الذي لعن، فإن كان لذلك أهلا وإلا رجعت إلى قائلها.
Abu Dawud (4905) and Ibn Abu Dunya in Al-Samt (384) both narrated it through Yahya bin Hassan, who said, Walid bin Rabah narrated to us, I heard Numran mention from Umm Darda, who said, I heard Abu Darda say, and he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Numran, who is Ibn Utbah Dhimari, from whom a group of narrators transmitted. Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators, and his hadith has established foundations, so his hadith is graded hasan. Ibn Hajar also graded its chain sound in Fath al-Bari (10/467).
