Ahmad (20678), Ibn Abu Asim in Ahad wal-Mathani (1189), and Tabarani in Kabir (283/2) all narrated it, through the hadith of Abdul-Samad bin Abdul-Warith, who said, "Ubaydullah bin Hawdha Qurayi told me," who said, "A man told me that he heard Jarmuz Hujaymi," and then he related the hadith.The unnamed man in this chain of transmission was identified with certainty by Baghawi and Ibn Sakan as Abu Tamima Hujaymi, as stated in the biography of Jarmuz Hujaymi in Isaba. Abu Tamima Hujaymi is Tarif bin Mujalid Basri, who is trustworthy, and Jarmuz was a companion of the Prophet, his hadith being found among the people of Basra. Accordingly, this chain of transmission is sahih.Bukhari also narrated it in Tarikh al-Kabir (247/2), and Ibn Sakan, as mentioned in Isaba (biography of Jarmuz, no. 1183), through the route of Salm bin Qutayba, who said, "Ubaydullah bin Hawdha told us," who said, "Jarmuz told me," and then he related the hadith.Ibn Hajar said, "Accordingly, Ubaydullah heard it from him, meaning from Jarmuz, through an intermediary, and then heard it directly from him."
