Muhammad ﷺ said, "Shall I inform you what slander is? It is tale-bearing, the gossip spread among people."And Muhammad said, "A man continues to speak truthfully until he is recorded as truthful, and a man continues to lie until he is recorded as a liar."
إن محمدا ﷺ قال: ألا أنبئكم ما العضه؟ هي النميمة القالة بين الناس وإن محمدا قال: إن الرجل يصدق حتى يكتب صديقا، ويكذب حتى يكتب كذابا.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Righteousness and Kinship (2606) through several routes from Muhammad bin Jafar, who said, Shubah narrated to us, I heard Abu Ishaq narrating from Abu Ahwas, from Abdullah bin Masud, who said, then he related it.Regarding the word "al-idah," which is like "al-wajh" (the face) in form, Ibn Athir said in Nihayah, "This is how it is transmitted in the books of hadith, but what appears in the books of rare vocabulary is, 'Shall I not tell you what al-idhah is?' with the ain vowelled with kasrah and the dhad with fathah. Zamakhshari said, 'Its origin is al-idhahah, a fiilah form from al-idh, which means slander. Its lam letter was dropped, just as it was dropped from as-sinnah (tooth) and ash-shafah (lip). Its plural is idheen. One says, there is an ugly slander (idhah) between them, from al-idheehah.'"
